POLL: Ordered chapters -or- No ordered chapters

As the title states, do you prefer ordered chapters or no ordered chapters? I've released season 1 of Haruhi in dual audio and ordered chapters but I realize that not everyone would prefer having ordered chapters. For starters, ordered chapters mean having the OP and ED in separate files which can reduce the size of the main file while retaining the same quality. Although it saves space, not everyone prefers having them since they claim it as an "incomplete" file. In essence, it is no different than the full file provided that your media player can support linked files and that both your OP and ED are in the same folder as your episodes.

Not many people realize that ordered chapters require significantly more work for the encoder and they simply think of them as just a nuisance and couldn't care less with the space that ordered chapters save. If people prefer having ordered chapters, I don't mind the extra work and can continue to do it for future episodes of Haruhi. But if you think having them is too much of a hassle for you, then I can do future releases with just the normal file instead of making ordered chapters. I'm not sure how to use an actual poll or if blogspot can even support that kind of feature, but you can leave comments and even a simple "yes" or "no" will suffice. So let me hear your opinions!

I'm currently encoding a higher quality raw for episode 8, so expect a release of it soon.

  1. I honestly could care less about whether an episode is ordered or not. So, release it however you want imo.

Thanks for the releases, they are appreciated.

  2. It would be nice, but it isn't necessary.

  3. i like the ordered chapters personally. it makes skiping the intro and outro easier, after seeing them the first time that is.

that said, whatever makes the releases easier for you and faster for me.

thanks for the releases, much appreciated :)

  4. I guess I'll be the first to say this, but for the sake for "universal compatibility", I'll have to say no to ordered chapters. Some of us viewers are running Linux/Unix-based systems, and ordered chapters don't seem to work no matter what we do. Works perfectly on Windows systems for those who are using it though. (has something to do with ffmpeg)

Ultimately, it's all your call, but do consider both pros and cons of both possibilities. Eh, pointless rant, but I said what I wanted to.

As always, thanks for your releases :)

  5. I'm a fan of Ordered Chapters for purely file space savings... It's great for archivists - but not necessary

  6. I agree with the fact that using separate OP and ED files save a lot of space. Though either way is good. However I'd suggest releasing either all with linked chapters, or none at all.

  7. No ordered. I am one of those lazy cheap bastards that refuses to upgrade from Win98. The last cccp/fddshow for 98 was in alpha stage for ordered and works maybe 2% of the time.

  8. I am for ordered chapters. As for Linux users, there is something for you here: http://emess.developersatlarge.com/2009/04/01/ordered-chapters-and-you/

  9. Yes ordered chapters.
Saves disc space which is a big plus.

  10. Well how much space is it really, a minute and a half out of an episode means 6-7%.

And if that space went to quality, I doubt it'd be noticeable for ~15-20 megs over 22 minutes.

  11. Doesn't matter for me. Space isn't an issue.

  12. As some people have said spce is not an issue for most of us. Ordered chapters are nice but need to be implemented in something more crossplatform than halli's renderer. So ordered or not is space saving for downloads but if we could get more quality out of the space saved from ordered chapters it even better

  13. No for ordered chapters. Some of us actually care about the end credits and do not appreciate unnecessary tempering with the source material.

  14. I vote for no ordered chapters. Space is no issue, since HDDs are so cheap.

  18. why would you have to do more work just because we have less space on our hdds? no to ordered chapters

  19. For me YES, i have 2x600GB disks and both are full already, have to buy next one. So it being said i'd like to see more anime series done this way!

  20. On Linux: There's a patch for mplayer to do ordered chapters

2ndly: If your player can't support ordered chapters, just play the files in a playlist, it's that simple.

But, I would rather you not do ordered chaps, unless you have too much time. In the end it's up to you, you wanted to challenge yourself right?

  21. I have to stay, stream of conciousness is wonderful but knowing the the timeline for this series is a lil more difficult then I thought it would be. So put as regular, and if anyone complains have a word doc with the ordered chapters
